Resolved - Issues related to Team Passcodes automatically enabling on the Square Register and v5.52 of the Android Square Point of Sale app will continue to appear until software updates are released.

Please expect all issues related to Team Passcodes to be fully resolved on December 1st, 2020 for the Android Square Point of Sale app after the software update rollout (v5.53) is completed.

The rollout for the Square Register update (v4.21 / v4.22) to resolve this issue will be completed on December 15th, 2020.

Identified - We’ve identified an internal error that may be automatically enabling the use of Team Passcodes on the Square Register and the latest Android version of the Square Point of Sale app (v5.52).

Monitoring - The issue with a small number of Terminals we saw yesterday appears to have stabilized. We've received no further reports of the Terminal PIN screen freezing today. We'll continue to monitor the situation and investigate impacted Terminals.

Investigating - A small number of sellers are reporting Square Terminal freezes upon inserting a card into the chip slot then reaching the PIN entry screen. Removing the card from the slot should allow the Terminal to resume operation. A workaround for now is to tap or swipe the card, or make a manually keyed card payment.

Our engineering team are currently investigating the issue and we'll provide further update as they come to hand.
